The State of Nevada Appropriates $709,000 to
the Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Stars
LAS VEGAS, NV – (June 8, 2007) – The Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Stars is pleased to announce that the State of Nevada has appropriated $709,000 to the implementation and operation of after school programs in certain at-risk schools in Clark County. The appropriation goes directly to the Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Stars organization.
The $709,000 appropriation from the State of Nevada will be used to support after school programs such as science, sports, dance, cooking, media & broadcast journalism, art and numerous other educational, enrichment and recreational programs for at-risk youth. These programs are provided free by the After-School All-Stars to youth throughout Clark County.
“We are so grateful to the Legislators of the State of Nevada & those who helped make this extremely important appropriation a reality for all the kids and families that rely on after school programs,” said Jackie Locks, Executive Director of the After-School All-Star program. “This appropriation will also allow the After-School All-Stars to implement additional activities in more schools that need our programs. This state appropriation helps to make it possible for us to provide comprehensive out-of-school programs that keep our children safe and help them achieve success in school and life.”
The State of Nevada appropriations money will allow the After-School All-Stars to begin new after school programs at certain at-risk elementary schools and middle schools in the fall of 2007. The schools that are already served by the After-School All-Stars will receive additional programs and activities to meet the ever-increasing demands for after school programming.
The Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Stars program provides opportunities for inner-city youth to participate in after-school and summer activities in sports, educational, cultural and community-enrichment programs that are free to all participants. Since its inception, The Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Star program has positively affected the lives of more than 100,000 Southern Nevada youth.
